Bob Paulson
Beginning in 2018, Bob Paulson served District 3 constituents as a representative in the ND House and now serves as a State Senator. In his role as a legislator, Bob relies on his faith in God, his belief that the family is the foundational unit of our society, the Constitution, and the North Dakota Republican Party platform. He is a conservative and his voting record reflects that. His goal is that constituents would be able to consider his voting record, look at the Republican Party platform and think, “OK, I can see the tie there, that makes sense.”
Bob is pro-life, pro-family, pro-Second Amendment, pro-medical freedom, pro-school choice, and pro-individual liberty. He is not someone who looks at a problem and says, “Hey, I bet the government would do a great job of solving that.” Instead, he aligns with Ronald Reagan who said, “Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem!”
The most significant bill Bob introduced was a vaccine discrimination bill in last November’s Special Session. It was modeled after Montana’s law and would have banned discrimination based on one’s vaccination status. Bob is not anti-vaccine, he is for informed consent and freedom. Bob believes that no one should have to choose between injecting an unproven substance into one’s body and providing for one’s family. Americans should be free to get all the information and then choose what’s best for them. Personal responsibility is a plank of the party platform and one he honors in his own life.
Bob believes in limited government and lower taxes, two more planks of the Republican Party Platform. North Dakota is in the top 3 states for tax dollars collected per person and spends almost twice as much as South Dakota. North Dakota’s significant oil revenue allows us to overspend, but Bob believes that oil booms can eventually become oil busts, and establishing a standard of living as a state that we cannot sustain can lead to negative consequences for North Dakotans. Bob believes we need to rein in spending which is why he will continue to vote against significant budget increases.
Bob believes in Traditional Family Values, another plank of the platform. He will vote against any of the woke agenda that is being pushed by the Biden administration.
When it comes to education, Bob is a strong proponent of parental rights. He believes that parents have the absolute right to direct the education of their children. Whether one wants to send one’s children to public school, private school, or home school, parents should be free to decide what is best for their family.
The last plank of the Republican Party platform is Legislative Integrity which states that legislators should lead through personal moral integrity and consider the platform responsibly before supporting or opposing legislation. Bob pledges to do just that.
Bob’s excellent leadership ability comes from his impressive 24-year career as a Navy pilot. Retiring from the military in 2009, Bob settled with his wife, Sheryll, and their 10 children on a farmstead southeast of Minot. As a family, they enjoy serving at local soup kitchens in Minot. Currently, he is board president for Dakota Hope Clinic and treasurer for Minot Camp of the Gideons International.
